Who makes this, and why.

Ephemeris Lab is an independent product, built and published by one person, sold as software you own rather than a service you rent.

The product

Ephemeris Lab is professional astrology software for desktop computers — Windows, macOS and Linux. It calculates natal, relationship and predictive charts, prints and exports them, and keeps a local library of the charts you have cast. It runs entirely on your own machine: the planetary ephemeris data, the world atlas and the historical time-zone rules all ship with the application, and no account or internet connection is required to use it.

It will be sold as a one-time licence covering all three platforms. There is no subscription, no per-chart pricing, and no cloud service behind it.

Why it exists

Astrology software has a quiet credibility problem. Two programs will give you two different Ascendants for the same birth and neither will tell you why. Unknown birth times get silently turned into noon charts, and the resulting Ascendant looks exactly as confident as a real one. Time zones and daylight-saving history get applied inconsistently, and the difference only shows up as a chart that doesn't match the one the client was given by someone else.

Ephemeris Lab is built on the opposite instinct: state the method on every chart, surface the ambiguity instead of resolving it invisibly, refuse to answer when the answer isn't defined, and publish the validation work so that "it's accurate" is something you can check rather than something you have to take on faith. That last part is the evidence page, and it is the part of this project we would most like to be judged on.

Status

The application is in active development and has not been released. The feature set described on this site is built and running in the development build, except the items explicitly marked in development on the features page; the remaining work before launch is those items, packaging, the store, and a final validation run. There is no download and nothing to buy yet.
